About Rasmusic

I started playing when I was 12 years old and was playing gigs at the age of 13 with my 3 brothers. I have, over the years, played in lots of different bands and situations. I have played in rock, blues, jazz, funk, metal bands playing all sorts of instruments. I have played in theatre orchestras, completed session work for artists, recorded and produced CD's and streaming music for others in my recording studio. I have composed a series of music CD's for horses and dressage that are available to purchase. I have composed 300+  songs of original music ranging from metal to funk to classical to jazz to acoustic etc.

Some of my students have gone on to greater things, including the Royal College of Music and as performing musicians in up and coming bands. I also provide support to individuals who compose their own music, offering suggestions on arrangement and often playing and recording many of the instruments involved in their music.

I have a number of international students fully utilising the Zoom platform.  I teach students in Canada, New Zealand and now France.

I have always loved everything about music and how important it is in our lives. In my lessons I strive to communicate my passion for learning and playing music. I am always learning and keep myself versed in contemporary styles of music. I absolutely love all types of music so long as it is played well and with conviction. I have a very relaxed but structured approach to my teaching and provide a comprehensive contact service outside of my lessons if you require support with anything musical.

I have a formal teaching qualification and I am registered with the Registry of Guitarists and I trained using the DrumSense approach to learning drums.

I am currently playing in a band which requires me to play electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, alto and tenor sax (not all at the same time of course!!!)

I hope to meet you in my lessons. Jon

Where to start?! I can’t recommend Jon highly enough. My son learnt drums with Jon for around six years. I used to sit in on lessons when they were in Jon’s studio and then later when they went online due to Covid. The thing that strikes me the most is Jon’s ability to read my son’s mood each week and adjust his teaching/lesson content accordingly. Always positive, and with a joke at the ready, Jon and Zach really clicked. Jon took the lead from Zach as to what he wanted to learn, while helping to guide him through increasingly challenging pieces. Zach always left lessons with a spring in his step and his listening music tastes are wide - a legacy to this. He always practised without a complaint because he wanted to please Jon each week.Zach has currently stepped away from his lessons to focus on his GCSE year at school but I have taken his lesson slot as I embark on learning the guitar - at 50! Jon is very patient and already I appreciate music a little more and can enjoy my progress.Jon is an accomplished musician who shares and instills his own love and passion of music in others. He is a truly remarkable bloke who makes the world a better place.

Jon took over teaching my son guitar after a bad experience with a previous Music teacher which really shook him for many months as he was primary age at the time.Jon made a difference, was patient and calming and restored my sons confidence in a music teacher again. Although my son decided to step off lessons again for now due to other commitments and general Teen tiredness, I do believe that my son has become friends with his guitar again which is what I hoped for.A bad teacher can destroy a young person's whole experience for many years, even life, and no one has the right to spoil the music for another. Music is a beautiful gift and thanks to Jon, my son was able to appreciate this once again. He was not aiming to be the next Jimi Hendrix, just learning how to enjoy his guitar. Job done. I think that Jon is a great teacher. Thanks Jon!

I have been having drum lessons on and off with Jon for the past 15 + years. Not only is he 'annoyingly' talented, and an accomplished musician on multi disciplines, he's a very good teacher as well. I teach myself in the outdoors, and so now a bit about getting your point across easily and concisely, it can be tricky. But he knows how to tap into your learning style/s, and what makes you think and tick.I use to drive an hour for lessons, but since he has taken it online, I think it's loads better. Mainly because now i can sit in the comfort of my own home and play my own kit (I'm funny like that, i do prefer my own kit) but also I don't have to travel! So save fuel and time. Also his camera set up is wicked, as you can see EXACTLY what you need to. So for example we recently chatted about foot technique and his camera went there (bad sandals...sorry Jon ) and i could see the foot and what i needed to achieve. He can also share music with you online and break down pieces/time signatures by sharing screens so you can follow a specific piece of music easily whilst he plays and you follow the notation - brilliant. So if you're looking for music lessons, and Jon plays it (he probably does) then i can't recommend the old bean highly enough.

A great teacher and individual who ends up becoming a very good friend, managing to make the most uninteresting topics seem fun, I was with him for around 6 years and my skill as a guitarist grew a lot under him.
